#Art of Fantasy 68: Kouji Tajima

comp_skullI thought we’d try something different this week. How about fantastic beasts? Hell-spawned creatures? Yes? Come right this way…

Meet Japanese artist, Kouji Tajima. He is a 2D/3D concept artist, character modeler, and texture artist, currently working at Double Negative Singapore. The list of  projects he has worked on is impressive and include movies like Total RecallLes MisérablesThe Hunger Games: Catching FireTranscendence, and Godzilla.

Below is a small collection of this young artist’s work. Each image links back to the site of origin. Enjoy!

Admittedly, some of these are more on the side of sci-fi, but I told myself that fantasy has a great many monsters and vile creatures from the abyss wreaking havoc in plenty of fantasy stories, so I am allowed to stretch my interpretation.

Conan fought demons and so did Elric, and I just reread The First Name by Dennis Schmidt containing demons and hellish creatures. The First Name is a good book, by the way, but probably out of print. I’m still searching for the second and third installments in the series.

Anyway, I love Kouji’s work and I’m not surprised at his phenomenal success. His concept work is pure brilliance. Please let me know your thoughts and don’t forget to check out this week’s Art of Science Fiction over at Kōsa Press.

Take care, folks!
