James Zapata is an illustrator and concept artist from Brooklyn and has done work for Blizzard Entertainment, Wizards of the Coast, Telltale Games, Guerrilla Games, Passion Pictures NYC, Nathan Love, Applibot, and Games Workshop.
Below is a small sampling of his portfolio. Each image links back to the gallery of origin. Enjoy!
James’ work is ethereal and dark and the antithesis to your standard fantasy trope. I think that is what attracts me to his art. It’s just different, a mix of supernatural and fantasy and maybe even horror. Now that is a kick-ass combination.
Let me know your thoughts and remember to check out this week’s Art of Science Fiction.

Oh, wow! That’s really a stong imagination. I like the darkness and the sparkles of light. And I like the stylised lines, the semplicity of most illustration.
Love it 🙂
