Earlier this evening I received an email from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand that my novella, “Babylon’s Song” is a finalist for the 2017 Sir Julius Vogel Award for Best Novella/Novelette.
Voting will occur at Lexicon, 2-4 June 2017 in Taupo, New Zealand. You can find more details about the convention here.
To everyone else shortlisted in this category as well as the nominees in the other categories, congratulations! I am honored and extremely humbled to find myself among you.
It’s glorious feeling just to be shortlisted. And when I say glorious, I mean, having someone support your words in this way is both liberating and endearing. It means my writing has reached people and moved them, and at the end of the day, that is all you want as a writer. Well, that and being able to feed your family with your writing but before you can do that you first have to make readers feel.
So, thank you. No, I mean it. You’ve made my year.
