Neil Gaiman’s American Gods: The New Trailer

I read American Gods a couple of years ago. Then I read it again. I loved what Neil Gaiman did with our perception of gods and mythology. I loved it because I love mythology and folklore and because so much mystery still exists in this world and because our imaginations love to make sense of strange and frightening things.

With The Seals of AbgalI imagined the gods and their demonic cohorts waiting behind a thin veil that separates our reality from theirs, and with “Spirit Bow” I imagined an ancient world where kings proclaimed themselves gods because maybe they were such and maybe because being giant in stature made it an easy argument.

And although I will always prefer a book over a movie or TV series, seeing Gaiman’s American Gods come to life in this trailer is rather thrilling, if only for the chance to see how much it differs from what I conjured in my thoughts when I read the book. I’m excited to watch it. I want to see how closely they followed the novel.

Check it out below:

“American Gods” posits a different kind of war brewing—one between Old Gods and New.  The traditional Old Gods, with mythological roots from around the world, fear irrelevance as their believers die off or are seduced by the money, technology, and celebrity offered by the New Gods. Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is an ex-con who, left adrift by the recent death of his wife, becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to conman Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane). But in truth, Mr. Wednesday is a powerful old deity, on a cross-country mission to build an army and reclaim his lost glory.
