#Art of Fantasy 120: Jose Daniel Cabrera Peña

Woohoo! Post #120! This week’s Art of Fantasy feels extra special.

You’ll probably recognize this week’s artist from the work he did on God of War and Ghost Recon games. Jose Daniel Cabrera Peña is from Spain and is a hybrid artist, using both traditional and CG mediums specializing in historical, fantasy, and science fiction illustrations. He also works as a concept artist and matte painter for games and animation movies.

Apart from the games mentioned above, Jose has also worked for Wizards of the Coast: Magic the Gathering, and the illustrated book of George R.R. Martin’s World of Ice and Fire, among many others.

Below are a few examples of his astonishing talent at play. Feast your eyes and enjoy!

I have always liked the classical approach to fantasy art. It makes the scenes feel more real and possible and it allows for total immersion. In this sense, there is a thin line between historical and fantastical art. If you want to know more about today’s artist, visit him on his site here, and if you liked today’s post, please share it.

Cheers!
