I know. I’m late again, but this is the last time. I finished my story yesterday and so, I’m back to my old routine.
Today’s artist is from Brazil and his name is Caio Monteiro. His passion for fantasy art began at a very young age and he is another artist who mostly taught himself to paint. As a freelancer, he has worked for publishers and game companies, like Paizo and Pathfinder and many others.
There is a special reason I chose today’s artist. It’s because of the image above. It is an ode to Uhtred of Bebbanburg, the protagonist and main character of the bestselling Saxon Stories novel series by Bernard Cornwell and the BBC television adaptation, The Last Kingdom. Caio is a fan of the series and so am I.
Below is a small sampling of his work. Each image links to the artist’s gallery. Enjoy!
There is a youthful exuberance in the artist’s paintings. Although he uses much detail, the detail aren’t intricate and fine, instead his lines and composition are rough and blatant, unafraid, almost bordering on caricature, but I think that counts mostly for his commissioned work.
Let me know in the comments your thoughts and remember to keep a look out for this week’s Art of Science Fiction over at Kōsa Press. Someone else took over the reigns for me there this week because of time constraints, but fear not. I sent him the link to the artist I wanted to showcase.
Cheers!
